Miriam Smyth is a Regulatory Lawyer at Appleby, specialising in financial services regulation. She has over 15 years of experience spanning across major corporate law firms and with the Irish financial regulator.
At Appleby, Miriam advises new market entrants on establishing reinsurers in the Cayman Islands, guiding them through the CIMA licensing process and supporting ongoing compliance post-licensing. She also works with Class D licensed reinsurers in Cayman, helping them with day-to-day regulatory matters.
Prior to joining Appleby, Miriam worked extensively with Ireland’s leading general insurance company at McCann FitzGerald, a top five Irish law firm, predominantly focusing on corporate governance, outsourcing and Solvency II governance and risk management frameworks.
Her earlier experience at the Central Bank of Ireland’s Enforcement Division has provided her with hands-on experience of regulatory investigations and enforcement. Drawing on her regulator experience, Miriam provides clients with practical insights into how regulatory frameworks are designed and applied, helping clients to align business practices with regulatory expectations.
