Benjamin Alter
Managing Director, EY
Ben Alter is a Managing Director with the Insurance and Actuarial Advisory Services practice of Ernst & Young LLP’s Financial Services Organization. He is based in the firm’s New York office at One Manhattan West. Ben has significant experience as an insurance industry executive. Prior to joining Ernst & Young LLP, Ben was the chief actuary at Mount Logan Capital, a Canadian alternative asset manager run by BC Partners. Mount Logan Capital’s insurance division sat at the intersection of private credit and insurance.
Prior to that, Ben was the chief actuary as well as a member of the board of directors for Prudential’s Bermuda subsidiaries, Gibraltar Re and Lotus Re. This included responsibility for transaction pricing and execution, where he onboarded tens of billions of dollars of life insurance, annuities, and accident and health insurance from the United States, Japan, and China. Ben has extensive experience working with the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) on all aspects of running a Bermuda company, including technical items related to the implementation of the Scenario-Based Approach (SBA) with private credit. He has been through external transaction reviews and external SBA reviews. He was also heavily involved in providing feedback and guidance to the BMA on their recent regulatory changes.
Ben has also spent considerable time living and working in Asia and Europe. He is a CFA Charterholder (CFA), Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
