Commissioner Nathan Houdek

Nathan Houdek has served as both Insurance Commissioner and Deputy Insurance Commissioner for the State of Wisconsin since 2019. In his current role as Commissioner, he serves as the state’s chief regulator of insurance and oversees a domestic market with more than $50 billion in annual direct written premium, 300 domestic insurers, 2,000 total regulated entities, and 210,000 licensed agents. As a member of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), Commissioner Houdek is chair of the Financial Condition Committee, the central forum for all issues impacting financial stability, capital adequacy, asset valuation, and the U.S. solvency framework. He is also a member of the NAIC’s Life Insurance and Annuities Committee and International Insurance Relations Committee, as well as the International Association of Insurance Supervisors’ Macroprudential Committee. Commissioner Houdek has more than two decades of experience in public and private sector leadership roles, finding solutions to complex public policy and regulatory challenges across all lines of insurance. He earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
